This series stems from a journey through New York City the week before Barack Obama's victory on Tuesday, November 4, 2008. From Harlem to Long Island, a succession of encounters reveals the ambiguity of relationships between Americans. A Black population, often poor, is largely confined to the city's upscale neighborhoods (beyond Central Park). The United States is currently experiencing a profound identity crisis under the Trump presidency. The former president inaugurated the Barack Obama Presidential Center, which houses his foundation, on June 18, 2026.
Note: This photographic adventure was the subject of exhibitions in 2009 and 2010 and a book (8 days before Obama, published by FLAM, out of print. A reprint is being considered).
